Just in case you missed it... the Web has changed.
I think a little history of the Internet is in order to grasp the big picture. I'm not going to give any dates (late eighties and early 90's)... I'll just give a quick run down.
I would say nearly fifteen years ago I had a dial up Internet connection that allowed me to log into various College computers, BBS's (bulletin boards) and Newsgroups.
The Internet was much different than the Web is today. There was no graphics... it was totally text based and everything was dial up. All you could do was basically post to a newsgroup, post messages on some BBS's and send email. Internet Marketing as we know it today did not exist.
In time though - a few brave souls ventured out of the shadows and began marketing within the newsgroups. This started wars between the "Purists" and new "Marketers" that I still remember to this day.
You see, the Purists considered the Internet to be their own little playground. They viewed anyone selling something as evil. After all... Marketers had the TV, the Radio, Magazines, Newspapers, etc, etc as an avenue in which to sell their crap. "The Internet is ours" was their battle cry.
They viewed the Internet as a way for them to communicate with each other without having to wade through all the BS advertising - and they could control what was being said. When the evil "Marketer" entered the picture, this all changed - and it changed quickly.
Once the evil Marketer had discovered the Internet as a new marketing medium, the "Purity" of the Internet, newsgroups and BBS's was destroyed forever.
The Internet was now becoming just another medium for Marketers to sell their wares. It was inevitable and only a matter of time before this happened. But the Purists fought it tooth and nail.
The Newsgroups and BBS's were now inundated and overrun with advertising. There was so much spam that you could hardly follow a thread or make sense of it. The thread may have started out discussing a subject as "Microsoft DOS" as it's first post... but it was hard to make sense of it as the evil Marketers would post "off topic" spam ads trying to sell their wares throughout the threads.
As we all know things have changed a lot since those "Caveman" days... the evil Marketers persevered and the Purists lost the War (or did they?)
Jump to present day...
The Purists did not really lose - they just lost a battle ten or fifteen years ago, but they have recently won the War and staked their claim on the Internet as belonging to them with Web 2.0.
Just in case you missed this "coup d' etat" - give some serious thought to the current environment on the Web and Social Networking specifically. The Web no longer belongs to the evil Marketer. It is back in the hands and control of the Purists and they are once again controlling the conversations.
I know... it sounds like a bunch of BS, but for the most part it is true.
The difference is the Purists have discovered a way to once again "control" the conversations they want to have, while at the same time make a profit from these discussions (i.e. social networking communities).
Welcome to Web 2.0 and Social Networking.
I do not consider myself a Internet "Purist"... I'd fall more into the "Evil Marketer" category. This being the case, like you (if you are an Evil Marketer too) I have to adapt and change the way I do things or I will soon fall to the wayside and die a slow death.
Like the saying goes, "When in Rome... do as The Romans Do" was never a truer statement than it is today.
The way you sell things and market has to change - you are now in Rome.
Marketing as we know it today on the Web is dying a slow death - but it is happening fast. Only those who adapt and change will survive.
The Web 2.0 Marketer will survive this "coup d' etat".
Interruption Marketing has lost out to Participation Marketing and the Web 2.0 Marketer will prosper with these changes. It is no longer about forcing our messages down the throats of people - they get enough of that with all the other advertising mediums. It is all about authority, conversations and participating within discussions that other people deem important - not what you feel is important.
Seth Godin has been telling us this very same thing for a few years now - but a lot have not listened.
Why is this? Because it takes work and discipline (and change) to make relationships and participate in meaningful conversations. It is easier to do what I would call "method of the day" or "hit and miss" marketing - at least in the short run. But that is all it is... marketing for the short haul with no regard to the direction the Web is moving.
Like Seth Godin, Jack Humphrey has been telling Marketers they need to adapt and change their marketing methods for years now with Social Power Linking. Jack saw this "coup d' etat" coming before most and began joining in with the "conversations" while most of us were still doing our marketing basically the same way as the "evil Marketers" of past (and current) - cramming and forcing our message down our visitors throats.
I have posted before on Social Bookmarking and Social Networking and the success I have had with these methods. You can view other posts on this blog and see the results I have had by simply joining in and creating "conversations".
This is not a fad or a "method of the day"... it is here to stay.
With the direction the Web is heading (we are really already there) - Social Bookmarking, Social Networking, Conversation Participation with links from and pointing to those conversations is the key to being successful for the Web 2.0 Marketer.
So don't rebel against the "coup d' etat" - come on it, the water is fine.

Marketing Techniques for your Social Networking Website
Web 2.0 has its own unique look and feel, indeed it's become a culture unto itself. If you plan to setup your own social networking site, learn from the successes and failure of previous entries. This article examines the characteristics of a successful Web 2.0 website.
On of the biggest coups in Web 2.0 marketing so far has been GMail. Hotmail, owned by Microsoft, found success years earlier by offering free email accounts to anyone. GMail made their free email service available by invite only, at least initially. The fact that you had to be invited created a huge buzz. At one point a GMail account was one of the most sought after items on the internet—I even saw GMail invites being offered on eBay! So, exclusivity, at least initially, can build buzz.
Theme. What is your site about? How are you different than the hundreds, and possibly thousands, of other social media sites out there? Don't try to be the next MySpace or FaceBook. Those niches are long gone. In fact, you may have to create a niche of a niche. Be creative. Being the first in your niche will determine whether you're successful or not.
Invite people to your website as beta testers. Be exclusive. Beta has the "cool" element that makes participants feel they are part of something new and original. Others simply enjoy being part of a beta—taking part in something meaningful. In fact, you could call your website a beta even if you feel it's complete. Having beta participants allows you to get critical feedback before an official launch.
Let users control the content. This is a basic characteristic of almost every Web 2.0 website. Empower visitors by giving them full control. This concept is what made Wikipedia so successful—let the people write the content.
Make it easy for users to invite their friends from other social networking sites. You will have to offer an incentive for users to invite their friends—maybe a free gift or chance to win a big prize. Or, make users want to invite their friends from other sites.
Social media sites are also more name oriented. If you're trying to create buzz, choose your name wisely. "Joe's Cool Website" won't cut it. Look at existing sites. What angles or slants can you use based on your theme? Base your name on your target audience. Cute names may work for some audiences but not all.

Don't Make This Forum Networking Mistake
A little more than a year ago, I was browsing a forum and noticed a forum networking mistake. It was on a forum related to dating advice for men.
A guru” named RL posted an unsolicited article explaining his philosophy on how to meet women. Depending on a forum's rules, there may be nothing wrong with that. Some forums might even encourage it, if the guru is a respectable and established expert.
But the problem was that RL was not established at all. He just waltzed right in and posted an article. Hardly anyone knew who he was. Yet he came in there assuming he was an expert and started preaching to everyone. Not many people were willing to immediately accept him as a guru, bow down to him, and listen to his advice.
The result was that a lot of people responded negatively to RL's post. They refuted it and argued with him. Generally, they weren't very nice. One of them accused him of trying to sell a product.
What made matters worse was that RL argued back and even threw an insult to one of the posters. He most likely damaged his own reputation by doing that.
What RL should have done was to take the time to get himself established on the forum. He should participate in discussions like a regular forum member. He should befriend other posters and give advice whenever someone asks a question. This takes time, but it builds relationships with the forum members.
During the entire time, he can have a signature in each of his posts that has a link to his Web site. If people like the advice he gives or even just like him in general, they'll click on his signature to visit his site.
After he has offered enough advice to people's questions and established himself on the forum, posting an article, like he did initially, would receive a much more positive response.
There's another forum I used to visit regularly. It was an independent game developer forum. One of the forum members JL was selling marketing services. Unlike RL, JL was successful with his forum networking. Everyone liked him and saw him as an expert.
The difference between RL and JL was their approach. Unlike RL, JL took the time to build relationships. He participated in discussions like any other forum member. He shared jokes. And he offered advice whenever someone had a question. During the entire time, he had a link to his Web site in his signature.
Some of the forum members hired JL for his services.
At some point later, JL wrote an e-book and promoted it directly on the forum. Because he was a well-liked and respectable expert on the forum, no one accused him of blatantly promoting his e-book. In fact, people responded positively to it. Many forum members bought his e-book.
So if you decide to do forum networking, make sure you do it right. Before you post, check the forum's rules. Browse the forum for a while before posting to get a feel of the forum. And then network your way to success.

The Big Bang Of Communication Online And Who The Heck Invented The Internet Anyway?
While browsing your favorite sites, checking your email, or chatting with friends on Facebook, you must have thought about how it actually works at some point. The wonderful new age of technology and communication brought us many wonders and possibilities.
More than a century ago people were still exchanging information through the only means of communication at the time, the written word. While consuming knowledge and useful information through just books or pure communication, a man's dream was a huge global network which would connect all the people regardless of the distance. The invention of the first phone during the 19th century helped in improving the communication between people at distance but still, even with the invention of the television system and, of course, the main source of information for the masses - the newspaper, something was missing.
The entire breakthrough invention that changed the human perspective are connected to certain names, so the question "who actually invented the Internet?" surely came to anyone who has ever used the Internet, exchanged few emails or built a web site. Well, there isn't a person to whom we could actually pin this invention to but there are certainly a few names who contributed to the progress of this major breakthrough.
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency - DARPA originally developed the Internet. They did this with the purpose of sharing the defense research information between the universities and facilities that were involved. At the start it was just FTP sites and a form of a message board - the Usenet that enabled the scientists to post questions and then give answers to each other. This form of network was called ARPANET. The developing of its concept started in 1964, while the first exchanged messages were passed in 1969, between the Stanford Research Institute and UCLA.
In 1961, Leonard Kleinrock (MIT) wrote and published a paper that expressed his idea on packet switching. His idea is considered to be of the essence when it comes to the Internet and how it actually can work.
This idea replaced the old "circuit switching" concept where a real electrical circuit needs to be established from the source to the desired destination. This idea was behind the good old telephone exchanges.
Packet switching has a purpose to "rout" the packets of any data from one position to another. This is based on the address of information which the data carries, similar to the address written on the letter. With the use of packet switching, all of the packets that are destined for a huge number of users can share just one physical connection towards the Internet.
Packet switching indeed matters a lot when it comes to many services Internet has to offer today, like the World Wide Web (WWW) where handling traffic is of the highest importance.
Once Leonard Kleinrock's concept was proven, the process for standardization began.
TCP/IP, the communication protocol, developed by Robert Kahn and Vint Cerf in 1974 was very important for the development of the Internet, while the creation of the Ethernet is credited to Robert Metcalfe. Ethernet is considered to be the basic standard of communication in computers on the network.
Another figure that is credited for the development of the World Wide Web and making it more public friendly is definitely Tim Berners-Lee.
When it comes to the WWW, many people mix the World Wide Web with the Internet. However, these two are two different things. The WWW is a full set of documents that reside on all of the Internet servers that are using the HTTP protocol. These documents are accessible to all users simply via a "point and click" system. On the other hand the Internet is an interconnected system that consists of many networks and it connects computers worldwide through the TCP/IP protocol.
Being oceans apart from someone and at the same time being able to communicate or send important information or data in just a few seconds is a revelation that brought people around the globe closer together. The development of the Internet and networks is unlimited and it grows more everyday offering astonishing possibilities and applications for easier and more fun interaction.

Facebook Opens Profiles to the Public!.
Facebook is transforming its social networking web site into something similar like the "White Pages" online. Following the trend of Spock.com and ZoomInfo. Not only has Facebook now opened users profiles to the public. A publicly available search functionality has been added, which allows anyone, Facebook member or not, to search for a specific person. In about one month time, people will also be able to track down Facebook members via search engines like Google, Yahoo, Msn or Ask.
What about the privacy?
People who are not registered can only see the picture of Facebook members from their profile image, But if you are or you wanted to be an user, you can add this person as your friend or send him a message and sometimes see its profile. The problem still remains the same: this site can be dangerous. Tetridia has reported on privacy issues of Facebook in the past - about Facebook members reveal their personal details too easily. Many have never modified their privacy settings, where you can restrict the information available. So if your profile is not private and can't only be seen by your friend, anyone can have access to your mobile telephone, date of birth, interests or events you will attend.
This site is a goldmine to anyone who want to exploit people's private information this to include identity thieves, hackers, cyber criminal and of course the all prominent advertisers. Indeed they will have all the information to target YOU. Considering that Facebook has 39million members it really is a great opportunity for marketeers. The new regulation will come into force in the beginning of October 2007 - so you still have one month to change your settings and protect your Facebook profile.

Facebook Business Applications and Marketing Tools - Even Create Your Own
The idea behind using a social networking site as Facebook as a venue for doing business is building a user base in the form of a community who respond to you as a person or to your product. If you just turn your page into one big advertisement, you are not going to get much in the way of a response. You need to educate people about the product without coming across as a hard sell.
You want to create the impression that you are here for socializing, not business. People will come to trust you and be more likely to buy your product or service if you can do this.
Facebook has built in tools which can be used to build your business. These include:
- Social Ads
- Pages
- Beacon
- Insights
- Platform
- Polls

You can learn how to take further advantage of these features by visiting the facebook website business section.
SOCIAL ADS
Social ads have a lot of promise for building your business since they can go directly to the news feeds of your Facebook friends. Anyone who is on your friends list will be able to get the word about your business right on their profile page.

FACEBOOK PAGES
You can make a Face book page for a business, just as you would for yourself. This allows people to interact with and even become friends with your business. It is a great way to make a lot of people aware of your product and your brand who would not otherwise.
You know when someone becomes friends with your business on Facebook that you have a potential client; at the very least, they have shown some interest. People can interact with your business as they would with any of their other social networking site friends - they can leave comments and generally enhance the experience of a visit to your page.
You can use this social networking site to your best advantage by adding features that will appeal to your target market and fit in with the brand image you are aiming to create. Quizzes, games, a Facebook group and so on.
FACEBOOK BEACON
Like social ads, Facebook Beacon gives you the ability to build your business by promoting yourself via your Facebook friends news feeds. You can set Beacon to notify all of your Facebook friends whenever you have a new product available, or any other sort of news or information you would like to disseminate amongst your Facebook friends. All you need to do is to add a little code to your Facebook page (this can be done by copy and paste, so no need to panic).
This encourages more interaction with your page, the website of your business and your company in general. This also helps get the word out about your businesses product or service.
Do not fret that you will be mercilessly spamming your Facebook friends and invading their privacy - they can opt out of these updates at any time they choose. You of course have the same ability for Facebook Beacon updates from others.
FACEBOOK INSIGHTS
If you are using facebook as a method of promoting your business you will of course want to know just who is checking out your Facebook page, clicking on your ads and joining your friends list. Facebook Insights is a tool which can give you a lot more detail on these sorts of statistics, which can help you to evaluate the efficacy of your campaign.
Armed with this information you can make the call as to whether viral marketing is working in your favor. You can have a look at the Applications page on the Facebook site to get an idea what sort of things others are using the platform for. These kinds of features can really help you build your brand image; take advantage of them.
FACEBOOK POLLS
Facebook polls can be a great way to gather demographic information from people using the site. Since you can make the poll interactive and fun to use, you'll have no trouble gathering data. Best of all, you can target your polling.
You can make sure your polls are targeted just where you want them to be since you already have access to some data such as marital status and age of your Facebook friends. This helps you keep your polling relevant.
Do not forget about these valuable tools - they can really help out your business.
Anyone who is willing to put in just a little bit of effort can make their own applications for Facebook. You just need to learn Facebook Markup Language - there are plenty of tutorials online which can help you learn the ropes of this quickly.
Remember to have a look through what is already out there in terms of Facebook applications before you develop your own. If everyone is already using a very similar application, not too many of your fellow facebook users will be enticed by it. Do something a little different if you want to grab the attentionof people.
CREATING APPLICATIONS FOR BUSINESS
With just a little bit of programming know how, anybody can make and distribute their own applications. You'll be doing this to build your business and it can make a big difference. Applications can really draw in people and keep them on your site. Games are especially popular and can build your brand while keeping users engaged and entertained.
You would be unwise to neglect the use of these applications available to you through Facebook. They can help get the word out about your business - and that is why you made a Facebook page for your business in the first place, no?

Remember to respect the privacy of users and retain that trust you have worked so hard to build with them.
3) Free distribution

How To Network On Facebook
If you are just now finding out about Facebook, the you have missed out on a lot of great opportunities. Facebook has a great potential for networking with many opportunities for success if you know just exactly where to look. But there are a few things to keep in mind before jumping on the bandwagon and creating a profile with Facebook.
When you decide to join Facebook, you then have the opportunity to make your own profile that will be seen by others. Try to make this as professional as possible if you want others to take it seriously. If you are trying to be professional with someone and then they look at your profile and see what you did last weekend, it may be a huge contradiction for them and will easily lose confidence. If you want to still have fun with your friends, set up a separate Facebook account that only your friends will be able to view. But try to keep your personal life separate from your professional life when it comes to Facebook.
While creating your profile, don't be afraid to tell people all about what you do and what you are about. You have the option of showing as little or as much that you would like. There is a section of your profile dedicated for you to tell about yourself, so do it! You can also list other websites that you want them to see or invite others to be your friend. Just don't be afraid to show off your best side and let people know what you are all about.
Another thing to consider is spam. Facebook has a strict no-spam policy and will not hesitate to kick you off of you are using the site to send spam. This is one of the reasons why Facebook has such a large amount of users. Don't just join with the intention of sending messages to every member telling them about your business. Besides annoying all the members, your message may not get very far before you get blocked from using Facebook again.
Instead of trying to spam members, create groups that will spark peoples interest and that have to do with your business at the same time. Inviting others to join your group is a better way than spam and will get others looking at your profile too. Post your website on the group page and any other important details. You can find similar groups to yours and post an invitation to join your group. You may have to join several different groups in order to start getting the hang of things, but it will be worth it in the end if you can get your group to have a lot of members.
Try and keep things interesting in the group so that others will want to join and stay. Keep a conversation going on the wall and constantly invite others to join. Pay attention to details and don't let a day pass without looking at what has been going on with your Facebook profile and group. And don't let great networking opportunities pass you by but take advantage of them when they come.

How Can you Use Myspace Layouts?.
The Myspace community has offered various creative options to all its users. The most important of them all is the choice for various Myspace layouts, which come in hundreds of themes as well as colors. This is one of the most exciting options of the site too. This is the only social networking site that has so many creative options.
Besides having various sites that are dedicated to the purpose of the Myspace layout, there are several designers who offer their services for free. These designers keep updating the various layouts, so that users may be given various options to choose from. The sites and layouts are available in plenty, and there would be no need for users to hunt for too long for what they want.
The only drawback about using these Myspace layouts is that there will be so many to choose from that it will take a while. To make things simple, all one has to do is use a different Myspace layout every week or as one pleases. This will also make the profile better, as the look and feel of it keeps changing instead of being monotonous. This will naturally excite a lot of readers.
Readers will be there to find people for their groups and other activities, and they will use the search option to find people with similar interests. This way anyone could visit a profile, so it is essential that all users take some care about the way they post their profiles. You will never know what interesting options may come up from such situations.
The use of Myspace layout is not limited as for one there is the exciting variety to choose from. Besides the categories and themes that are versatile, the use of these layouts is very simple. All designers will post a code for each layout, and all the user has to do is copy paste the code from the site to the profile home page. Nothing could be easier than this.
Because the procedure is so easy, people who use this site may use as many Myspace layouts as they want. Depending on their requirements they may change it as they want, and quite often if they please. You will find just about any category of layouts that you might be looking for. Because this is not restricted to one designer, there is the variety that will keep your interest piqued all the time.
The use of Myspace layouts also talks about how interesting the user will want to be about his profile. All the layouts can be previewed before posting it. This is of course one of the best options about the layouts. The users may preview as many as they want, and they will then be able to decide if that is exactly what they want or not.

How to Make Effective Post Exchanges
I wrote up this article to explain to others how to make effective post exchanges to promote the exchange partner's motivation to return good quality post exchanges to you. Enjoy this article and please reply with any comments, opinions, success stories and any other information you would like to provide.
First, we need to understand what a post exchange is. A post exchange is a partnership between one forum owner and another. The partnership is a mutual exchange of a certain number or continuing Post Exchange. Basically when a new forum is created, the owner need posts to help start it. He/she could make the posts themselves but other member posts will help boost traffic and get other users to join up. So the Post Exchange method has become popular in forum administration. You simply post on another forum and in exchange, the forum owner posts on your forum. This usually allows both of you to leave your forum link on your signature and open up more advertisement opportunities.
Now we need to focus on how to make effective post exchanges. If you want good content on your forum, then you must give good content on other forums. Many people who conduct post partnerships don't really care about the content they give but when it comes to the posts they receive, they require the best. That is not a good exchange partnership. Do onto others as you want others to do onto you. Make quality posts and get them back in return.
There are three guidelines to keep in mind when wanting to have the best post partnership as possible and they are:
Be a member – This means that you should be seen as a regular member when you join the community. When you join, dress up your profile and select the options you wish to have displayed such as quick reply, forum time and so on. Your first post should be in the introduction section (if applicable). Your introduction should be at least a brief paragraph. Tell other members a little bit about yourself, where you are from and some of your most devoted interests. Be friendly and act as if you really want to be a part of the community and meet new people.
Show trust – Many exchange partnerships begin with one partner saying "Once you start posting on my forum, I will start on yours". This is a bad partnership attitude to have. To avoid it, simply be the first one (without complaint) to start posting. Be friendly to the exchange partner whether or not they are friendly or give good content. If they don't give good posts, simply finish your exchange with them and then never partner up with them again. This will show others you are mature, trustworthy and not one to complain about what others give you. If you must confront the partner about the Post Exchange conditions or issues, do so in private with use of Private Messages or email. Do not create drama for other users to have to deal with.
Quality Posts – This is one of the most important guidelines to have. I remember once when I asked a former exchange partner to have another exchange. He said that he was extremely satisfied with my posts from the last time and was very happy to do another exchange with me. The best posts to create are ones that keep the thread going. Tell a little story and ask questions so the thread gets replies. Avoid making too many "one liner" replies or topics. One liner posts are posts with 1-4 words that really don't ask a question or motivate the thread. Post more in unpopulated boards and threads to get them active. Be friendly and be on topic. It is also a good idea to read the board guidelines to make sure you don't post any unwanted content.

A Clean Twitter Is A Good Twitter
Twitter has been called micro-blogging, or blogging for ordinary people. Basically they have provided a way for people who don't want a full fledged blog to post about their daily happenings.
The downside to Twitter is the amount of people who sign up and make a post, but then never return. Currently these abandoned accounts are never deleted, so it's up to you to update your follower and following lists keeping them clear of these abandoned accounts.
Finding Followers:
Besides being able to add your friends and email contacts to Twitter, they also provide a handy search box to help you find people to follow.
One of the best ways to get followers is to follow others first,. There is one check you must do before adding someone to your list, the most recent post date. Just adding thousands of people to your twitter list will not bring you followers. Twitter received a lot of buzz and attracted a lot of tire kickers, but if you aren't paying attention then you could easily end up with the majority of your list being people who haven't logged on to Twitter for a months, and they won't be coming back to check out your profile anytime soon.
So step one to a clutter-free Twitter is to follow the right people. I will search for a particular term, and flip through the list, signing up to follow only people who have posted in the last 7 days. Also I will not follow anyone on their first post, I want to make sure they will be coming back on a regular basis.
Culling The List:
As your lists grow, you will want to check your following list and un-check those who have not posted for a while. I like to use a 30 day rule. Every time I log on to Twitter, I check 5 to 10 people in my list, and stop following the ones who have not made a post in the last 30 days. Many people don't post every day, or even every week, but chances are if they have not posted in the last month, they probably won't be posting again.
Following Followers:
Step 3 is returning the favor. Whenever you log in, check your follower list to make sure you are returning the favor to everyone that is following you. Unless they are just spamming the Twitter system with affiliate links posted every couple of minutes, there is no reason not to give back.
Posting With Links:
When writing a post with a link, whether to your site, an affiliate link, or just something cool you found, there is no need to place a full URL. Just using the www.sitename.com format will automatically make a clickable link.
While affiliate links are okay, try to post valuable content as well. Just putting up a bunch of obvious affiliate links will lose your following.

Choosing a Free Myspace Tracker
Finding a free tracker for myspace has become a hot topic amoung bloggers and disgruntled myspace users. We have tested and tried all of the free myspace trackers and have only found 1 that is worth our members' valuable time. Finding a worthy myspace tracker was a task in itself, and we can only hope that readers will utilize the information provided to make their decision. Please note that most of these myspace trackers are fake, contain spyware, exploit myspace security holes or are completely useless. Below is a list of fake myspace tracker services and their actual function.
Adware merchants such as Myfriendspy.com was one of the worst adware sites to hit the myspace community. This site tricked users into downloading spyware brought to you by 180 Solutions, Inc. However note, this site no longer distributes adware, at least not for the time being.
Fake Bulletin Websites: Spyspace, Viewtracker and other dumb tracker names are basically just a trick to get users to repost a bulletin to increase traffic. These are highly successful for the owner in terms to traffic production, however are frowned upon by myspacers everywhere. (example: www.ryanchunn.com) Do not participate in these as they only make you appear stupid.
Now that we have gotten the spamming scams out of the way, let's go over some of the tracking websites that actually provide tracking.
ProfilePeep is soon becoming one of the most popular profile trackers, not because of their features but because of their marketing efforts. The service and information this website provides is useless. It does not sort by visitors, but instead by hits. There is no incentive to upload photos and the geolocation database is weak. They do not provide tools for their members to get better results except for 1 link. They also reveal IP which is very neglegent. 95% of users cannot find use for IP. The other 5% would only use this information maliciously. Read Privacy Policy regarding what they do with your email.
WhosOnMyPage.com is probably the most useless of the tracking breed. This website provides less information than profilepeep and because of its status with Myspace is non-functional. Once insterting the code into your page, myspace.com automatically deletes the code, making this myspace tracker useless. This website rarely works. Read Privacy Policy.
WhosOnMyProfile.com is a sham and a scam. During registration you are forced to complete a survey which asks for personal information such as street address and phone number. Once completed you are brought to a screen that says 'The code no longer works on myspace.' This website is a scam and will steal your time as well as your contact information. Read their privacy policy.
Beyond these scams, shams and lies there is actually a free myspace tracker worth your precious time. The tracker that stands above there rest is definatly http://www.TheSpaceTracker.com. The Space Tracker provides comprehensive visitor tracking and traffic statistics. These statistics are of premium grade and help greatly with friend tracking, marketing or overall entertainment. This myspace tracker WILL NOT tell you who every single person that visits your site is, expecting this feature in any free tracker or paid tracker for that matter is unrealistic. But if you have some patience, The Space Tracker provides tools that greatly improve your tracking results with minimal participation. If you want a free tracker for myspace, TheSpaceTracker is it! No other tracker can currently sort visitors by time, consistancy, users, month, hour and geographical location. The space tracker is the only solution that actually offers some structure. Users can now control what information they reveal about themselves and in turn those settings dictate the information that is provided from results. For example, if a member does not have a photo uploaded, then that member will not be able to view photos in their tracker. This makes for a better community as it definatly entices action by the user. No other free myspace tracker has ever tried so hard to provide members with decent statistics. According to TheSpaceTracker.com's admin, they are trying their hardest not to get zapped by myspace by providing the most myspace compliant tracker available. This tracker was also mentioned in The Washington Post blog and has gotten great reviews across the board.
All in all, TheSpaceTracker the only myspace tracker worth joining. TheSpaceTracker does not spam, install spyware or steal your myspace information. A free tracker for myspace is hard to come by without the correct knowledge, but with some helpful tips your free tracker for myspace is just a click away!

How to Make Your Own MySpace Layout
In order to make your own MySpace layout, you need to consider three things, namely the background properties, the text properties and the scrollbar and cursor properties. Let's have a look at each of these.
Background: To fix your MySpace background, you need to decide on a few things like the background position, the background color, and background image. First of all decide the position where the background will begin. This could range from upper right corner to bottom left. Next, fix the background color and background border. The color chosen should be pleasing and suit the theme that you are promoting. It should blend with the text color so that readability of the text is good Next select the border thickness and color.
Animation and graphics: You can have a variety of animation choices and graphics. You can choose the one that would suit your taste, theme and group.
Text: Decide what you want to display on your pages. The matter for the main text should be carefully prepared so that it conveys whatever you are communicating. The title text and sub-title texts should reflect, in brief, the contents. Decide on the links and provide them.
Scrollbar: You can choose the color of the arrow, scrollbar, highlighting and face color.
So that's what you need to do in brief. How do you go about it? There are plenty of sites that offer you ready made and customizable MySpace layouts. You could start with one of them to save trouble and make sure that all aspects are taken care of.
Your MySpace layout will also need to consider the contact table that you want to attach it to. There are hundreds of ready to use contact tables available that take care of various categories and requirements. Select one that will suit your particular theme and requirements.
Once you have decided what your layout would look like, you can easily make it using one of the many templates that are available. These usually allow you to choose the particular look and feel that you prefer from a large library offering choices for each component of the layout.
